BMTC Corona Eco-friendly Buses
Eco-friendly Corona Bus were introduced by BMTC in May, 2011. The first trial run was between Kempegowda Bus Station and Bangalore International Airport. This initiative by the BMTC is an attempt to reduce pollution levels in Bengaluru. This bus has a pollution free mechanism and has received a positive feedback from commuters.
To control pollution and to comfort passengers BMTC had introduced Volvo buses which are Euro-3 buses. The Corona bus is an improved version.It is eco-friendly with minimal emission levels.
The new bus will ply between Majestic to HSR layout, Majestic to ITPL, Majestic to Electronic City, BIAL to ITPL and Magestic to Bannerghatta National Park. The fares will be 30 per cent lesser than those currently in place in the Volvo services. The cost for the Corona bus service will be approximately Rs 1.40 per km and the bus comes at a cost of Rs 53.55 Lakh each.
BMTC has already introduced 6,200 buses in the city and plans to add 1000 more. The government claims to introduce 3000 Bharat Stage IV buses in the coming three years. These buses too are eco-friendly and have low emission levels.BMTC Corona buses also have an auto-transmission technology which makes travel smooth and jerk free.
