Chunchanakatte Kodanda Rama Temple

Chunchanakatte is situated in Krishnaraja Nagar Taluk, Mysore district, Karnataka. Chunchanakatte is well known for Lord KodandaRama temple which is situated on the banks of river Kaveri. An eye catching water falls of Cauveri river does exist just beside the temple. There is a belief that Goddess Sita took holy bath in this place and till now the water colour in that area looks like mixed with turmeric and other holy powders used for puja. The place is very scenic with water falls and greenery in surrounding place. During January 15th (Makara Sankranti) of each year there will be car festival (Brahma Ratotsava) and cattle festival during August.

This place is mainly famous for Sri Rama temple situated on the banks of river Kaveri. The temple timings are from 9.00am to 12 noon and 6.00pm to 7.00pmA natural waterfall with surrounding greenery makes this place a good picnic spot also. The speciality of this temple is that the goddess Sita is at the right side of Lord Sri Rama. Dhanushkoti, where goddess Sita took bath. The sound of water falls and the birds make the environment very pleasant. None of these sounds is audible inside the temple. There is a belief that Lord Sri Rama has cursed ladies that they should not speak much. There are facilities for visitors to stay in this place. There will be Brahma Rathotsava (car festival) during January 15th of every year. A big cattle festival will be held during August. There is an Hydral power station nearby. The power plant was started during 1994 and completed (two units) during 1998. The power station has got a capacity of 18MW (9 MW each). People taking bath in the water fall area have to be very carefull during the time when the water current is high. This place is declared as dangerous spot and not for swimming.

How to reach Chunchanakatte
People have to reach the taluk head quarters, Krishnaraja Nagar (K.R.Nagar) to go to Chunchanakatte. K.R.Nagar is 40Kms from Mysore (district head quarters) towards Hassan district. Well connected by road and rail, frequent buses available to reach K.R.Nagar from all parts of Karnataka state. Chunchanakatte is only 14Kms away from K.R.Nagar. Only road transport possible. Private and Government transport available to Chunchanakatte from K.R.Nagar.

Tourists coming from North part of Karnataka (Hassan, shimoga, Chikmagalur etc...) can reach this place without coming to K.R.Nagar. First they can come to Hassan district and proceed in Mysore road. Take right turn at Bherya which is 50Kms from Hassan. Chunchanakatte is 13Kms from Bherya. Train and bus facilities are available from Hassan towards Mysore. Visitors travelling by train have to get down at Akki Hebbal and proceed to Bherya by bus or private vehicle.
