Banashankari gets its name from the Banashankari Amma Temple on Kanakapura Road, one of Bangalore's oldest and well known temples, which was constructed by Subramanya Shetty in 1915.anashankari is the largest locality in Bangalore, extending all the way from Mysore Road to Kanakapura Road. It has the highest number of Volvo buses operated by a public transport company in India. The BMTC was formed in 1997, as the result of a split of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation.
