Banashankari gets its name from the Banashankari Amma Temple on Kanakapura Road, one of Bangalore's oldest and well known temples, which was constructed by Subramanya Shetty in 1915.anashankari is the largest locality in Bangalore, extending all the way from Mysore Road to Kanakapura Road. It is bound by Girinagar and Rajarajeshwari Nagar in the west, Basavangudi in the north, Jayanagar and J.P. Nagar in the east, and Padmanabhanagar, Kumaraswamy Layout, ISRO Layout, Vasanthapura and Uttarahalli in the south.

BTM Layout

Abbreviation of BTM is Byrasandra, Tavarekere and Madivala. BTM Layout is located in and around Electronic city and Bannerghatta Road. BTM layout is close to Koramangala, HSR Layout, J P Nagar and Jayanagar, the other important residential localities in Bangalore. The major landmarks include the office of the Central Silk Board, A2B, Udupi Garden Restaurant, AXA Building, Infosys Office in Bannerghatta Road.


Hebbal lake was created by Kempgowda in 1537. It has always attracted tourists and visitors for its abundance in aquatic plants and birds and its boating facilities. The flyover spanning a length of 6.25 kilometres is another important attraction of Hebbal. The commencement of the Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) at Devanahalli has made Hebbal to become a very important location for the passengers flying out of Bangalore. Hebbal now has a number of business and technology parks including Embassy Manyata Business Park.


Jayanagar is one of the important residential localities in Bangalore. Jayanagar is located in the south Bangalore. Jayanagar is one of the first planned residential areas in India after independence and is believed to be one of the largest planned residential areas in Asia. Jayanagar is surrounded by Banashankari, J P Nagar, Basavanagudi, Lalbagh, Siddapura, Tilaknagar, Gurappanapalya and BTM Layout. Jayanagar consists of ten area blocks. Jain Temple, Jayanagar shopping Complex, Vijaya College Swagath Inox are important landmarks of Jayanagar.

Narasimha Raja Colony

Narasimha Raja Colony (N.R. COLONY),is one of the oldest localities created in 1950s and named after famous Mysore royal family Kind Sri Sri Narasimharaja Wodeyar. This locality is in the heart of Basavanagudi.

JP Nagar

J P Nagar is home to many greatest personalities and artists. Kannada Film Star Ambareesh, Sudeep, Actress Tara, Actor Girish Karnad and Ex. HSR Layout is located at South-East of Bangalore. The abbreviation of HSR is Hosur Sarjapur Road. HSR Layout has witnessed dramatic growth in the residential housing which resulted to skyrocket the property prices in the recent years. HSR Layout is about 2 km from Koramangala and 5 km from BTM layout.


Koramangala is one of the prime localities in Bangalore located in the south-eastern part of the city. Koramangala is divided into 8 blocks. In 17 October 2014, Centre Government cleared the proposal to rename Bangalore and other cities in Karnataka. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced all these cities will be renamed on November 1, 2014 on the day of Kannada Rajyothsava day.

Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation, abbreviated as BMTC, is a government agency that operates the public transport bus service in Bangalore. It has the highest number of Volvo buses operated by a public transport company in India. The BMTC was formed in 1997, as the result of a split of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation. The Bangalore Transport Service (BTS) became the BMTC. BMTC remains a division of KSRTC.
