Gokak Falls
Gokak Falls is located 6km from Gokak on the Ghataprabha River. The Ghataprabha River takes a leap of 170 ft over a sandstone cliff after a long winding course. The water fall looks very much like the Niagara Falls but on a smaller scale. There is a hanging bridge across the river that provides magnificent views, however only a limited number of people are allowed at a time. You would also find monuments from the Chalukya period on the banks of this rocky gorge. The best time to visit is between the months of July and October. You need not worry about accommodation as there are several options that you can avail.
Belgaum is the nearest airport. There is also a railway station near Gokak and if you prefer taking the road, it is easy to find buses from Belgaum to the water falls.
Jog Falls
Jog Falls is the highest falls in the country. It is one of the most popular tourist spots. Jog Falls is situated on the borders of Shimoga and North Kanara, 100 Kms from Shimoga city. The Jog Falls are formed by the Sharavathi River falling from a height of 253 meters. There are many other interesting places in and around Jog Falls that you must pay a visit when you are in the area like Honnemaradu, Lion Tiger Reserve, Sirsi, Sagara etc. There are several hotels in the area that provide the perfect combination of modernity and tradition.
You can easily take a train to Sagara and then get onto a bus that takes you to Jog. There are also many direct buses that go to Jog which you can avail. In the case where you do not get a direct bus, you can choose to take a bus to Sagara from where you can take a local bus to Jog. The best time to visit the Jog is in winter when the sky is clear of the mist.
Unchalli Falls
Unchalli Falls also called the Lushington Falls, it is situated 25 kms away from Sirsi and 425 km from the city of Bangalore. The noise of the water fall breaks through the silence of the entire forest and hence it is also known as Keppa Joga. You can visit the Unchalli Falls at anytime of the year. Lodging is available both at Yellapur and Sirsi.
The nearest airport is Hubli. If you are traveling by road then you should take a turn towards Heggarani at Aminalli when on the Kumta-Sirsi state highway. There are many buses as well which can take you to Heggarani from where you can trek through the beautiful forests to reach the water falls. Taking the jeep is also a good option especially if you are traveling in large numbers.
Magod Falls
Located 17 km from Yellapur, not only is it the perfect spot for enjoying a relaxing picnic but the area is also great for all those who enjoy trekking. Without a doubt, the very best time to pay Magod Falls a visit is during the monsoon. There are many other beautiful spots around the area as well which deserve a look. It is not difficult to find lodging at Yellapur.
Hubli is the nearest airport. You can also travel by road; all you need to do is take a left after 5 km at Magod cross on your way from Yellapur to Ankola. The nearest railhead is Kumta.
